Rights of Light Assistant Surveyor / Surveyor – London Office

We are currently looking to appoint a new member in our specialist rights of light department.

The successful candidate will assist our team in assessing, analysing, and managing the impact of major development projects on neighbouring properties, and advice client on how to mitigate rights of light risks to these developments, so the projects can be delivered on time and within budget. You will work closely with senior members of our team and get exposure to many of the leading developers, architects, surveyors, and legal teams in the UK.

This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, a ‘can do’ attitude, and the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders. In return, we offer you a competitive salary and excellent career opportunities in an exciting and highly specialist field with one of the leading consultants in this space.

It is expected the successful candidate will grow with our support and training to absorb the following core responsibilities:

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits and surveys to assess the impact of proposed developments on neighbouring properties’ access to natural light.
  • Assist in the preparation of rights of light reports, including analysis of survey data and recommendations for mitigation measures.
  • Collaborate with major developers, architects, and legal teams to review proposed development plans and provide expert advice on rights of light issues.
  • Communicate with clients, developers, and other stakeholders to explain rights of light assessments and address any concerns or questions.
  • Assist in negotiations with affected parties to reach agreements or settlements regarding rights of light issues.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to rights of light assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Support senior surveyors in managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and deliverables are of high quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the rights of light surveying team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in surveying, architecture, engineering or a related field.
  • Previous experience in surveying and property development not required – however there is a preference for 1-2 years’ experience in the ROL industry.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret survey data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work output.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies in the field of rights of light surveying.

Experienced Building Surveyor – Bristol Office

Delva Patman Redler are seeking a skilled and experienced chartered building surveyor with experience in dilapidations and neighbourly matters services to play a key role in the growth of the Bristol office.

Delva Patman Redler are renowned specialists in Party Wall, Rights of Light, Daylight/Sunlight and neighbour disputes. We have a wide ranging and diverse client base which will be able support the growth of the new service line in the Southwest, but the candidate will be expected to help develop our existing portfolio of clients, help create new relationships and bring new clients into the business.

The client facing role provides an excellent opportunity for the ideal candidate to develop their own team within our Bristol office supporting the expansion of the company across the Southwest and nationwide.  The role will include the responsibility for providing expert advice and technical support on a wide range of building surveying matters. Working closely with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful delivery of construction projects, maintenance programs, and property management initiatives

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting detailed building surveys, inspections, and assessments to identify defects, deficiencies, and potential risks.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports, schedules of condition, specifications and maintenance programs.
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on building regulations, planning permissions, and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Liaising with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors to develop cost-effective and sustainable solutions to building-related issues.
  • Undertaking feasibility studies, condition assessments, and due diligence investigations.
  • Managing projects from inception to completion, including contract administration, budget monitoring, and quality control.
  • Conducting dilapidations assessments, negotiations, and settlements on behalf of landlords and tenants.
  • Keeping abreast of industry developments, best practices, and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and enhance service delivery.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and industry partners to drive business growth and client retention.
  • Mentoring, providing technical guidance, and promoting continuous professional development within the team.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Building Surveying
  • MRICS with a minimum of 4 years PQE
  • You will have had a direct client facing or customer service experience
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a wider team
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with key people both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with a collaborative and proactive approach to teamwork
  • Apply time management skills to your own workload in conjunction with our teams
  • UK Driving Licence

Graduate AutoCAD Technician – London Office

Delva Patman Redler are currently looking for an experienced individual to support our Rights of Light team. This role is critical in ensuring the smooth operation of our team and providing essential administrative support. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining the organization and efficiency of our department.

Delva Patman Redler is a Chartered Survey company where you can develop your existing skills and learn new talents as part of a growing team within the company. We work on a huge variety of schemes, covering aspects of rights of light, daylight/sunlight/shadowing, solar glare, envelope exercises, feasibility studies and BREEAM assessments.

Minimum Requirements

  • You will have relevant knowledge of AutoCAD and associated presentation packages with experience in 2D and 3D modelling. Revit knowledge beneficial but not essential.
  • You will have practised skills to successfully control and handle workload and the implementation of company and project CAD standards and drawing document procedures.
  • You will work on own initiative as a CAD Technician, in conjunction with the other members of the light analyses department.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with key people both internally with other departments and externally with clients and other professionals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Architecture or design focused diploma or degree qualifiaction.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience using 2D and 3D AutoCAD and Revit 3D modelling.
  • Conversant with Microsoft applications; Word, Excel, Adobe, and Power-point.
