As English land registration does not usually record boundaries in detail, it can be difficult to determine the exact line of a boundary when a dispute arises between neighbours. Experience in reviewing historic and legal documents, accurate measurement and a high level of analytic skill are required to reach the correct answer, and resolve a dispute without expensive litigation. Where litigation is progressing, a high level of competence and experience as an expert witness is essential to assist the court in correctly deciding the answer.
